I went to London with [info]linamishima and Chloe, caught up a lot, had a complete stranger join in with a conversation about Eclipse, ate all-I-could-eat pizza, played DDR (EZ2 variant), escaped some very [info]customers_suckish angry people, saw Waterloo station for the first time since a french exchange years ago, ate apple pancake, watched the Thames a bit and caught up some more over hot chocolate on the train back. All good fun, except for the bit with the locals.

I hesitate to post this meme, because although I can make passable use of The GIMP for a lot of editing tasks, I don't feel confident about actually composing anything from scratch. Still, practice makes perfect, I guess.

  1. Comment here and I'll pick one of your LJ interests and draw a picture using the mighty MS paint GIMP. I don't have Paint. Well, I have access to it, but, um, really...
  2. You have no say in what I draw for you, or in how much it will suck!

I've been playing with the Asterisk PBX for Linux, which [info]si1entdave helpfully set up here some time ago. I've been having fun with IVR, [info]planarplatypus might soon be writing Hunt the Wumpus on it using AGI and it is generally a good thing. Other than the fact that neither of the available H.323 drivers build and run on the current stable version, and of the 3 SIP clients I have here, minisip and linphone drop audio from time to time and stutter, and kphone occasionally drops invites. Any useful advice on that would be appreciated...

Anyway, returning abruptly to topic, I realised something the other day which may amuse: I was sitting there wondering why Asterisk keeps mpg123 processes (used for hold music) decoding into nothing all the time, grinding a small amount of CPU and disk. I remembered the electromechanical telephone exchange I saw in Wales and its tone generator, which would spin up when required, but keep spinning unnecessarily in certain situations.

...plus c'est la même chose.

Just been to the skydome. Great fun. :-) Having that within walking distance could be dangerous...

Work's going well, I should have most of what I was originally asked for working quite soon. Of course working != finished, it all needs testing, fixing, tidying, documenting and stuff, and I have a bunch of nifty extra ideas to make what I'm doing more useful. Still, I'm making good progress.

And now, pizza (once it turns up) and filmage. :-)
