| In which Sergei finally gets some armour |
[Aug. 2nd, 2008|01:17 am] |
Earlier today I looked up the date of my first LARP event. It was Foundation, just over two years ago. I was slightly surprised; I didn't think I'd been at it that long and still think of myself as a complete beginner who hardly understands any of the game. Nevertheless, I've caught the LARP bug and am likely to continue for the forseeable future, so I've decided that for my tenth event, I will actually get a proper armour physrep. Darkblade seem nice and sensibly priced, so I'm thinking about their Ryder armour and articulated vambraces, unless anyone has better ideas? I've already looked at the stands at events and the websites of LRPStore and Norton Armouries. I'd also appreciate any recommendations on where to find appropriate boots or boot-tops.
Edit: I now have some Elven Armour and Scales Greaves from Primal Forge, who were very helpful (answering questions and such) and shipped promptly. |

| Doctor Who - speculation about Forest of the Dead |
[Jun. 6th, 2008|09:59 am] |
I have a theory: evire fbat vf gur qbpgbe. A relatively obvious possibility I suppose, but I'm still eagerly waiting to find out if it's correct. :-) Annoyingly, Maelstrom is this weekend. This means I have to wait slightly longer to find this out and I miss Strawberry Fair. |

| I went to another world... |
[Mar. 24th, 2008|12:54 pm] |
(that one)… and all I got was… snow?! Unfortunately nobody seemed to know which eidolon was responsible. In other news, I appear to be able to play blackjack (I went in with 240 chips and came out with 510) and the sumo tournament was won by, no, really, the shoe shine boy. Not much else happened. It was way too cold for LARP really, the only upside of that being that very few creatures could be bothered to kill each other in any serious way. One unfortunate exception was the DNF taking a pot shot at Bakhana and promptly getting massacred. I don't think the DNF in general will be missed, but it's unfortunate for two reasons: firstly, Isa Veran will be. Secondly, Isa's death caused Boris to drown his sorrows in vodka and various people had to persuade him not to make his own suicide charge against the head of Bakhana.
Overall, it was good fun as usual, in spite of the weather, but I did decide that spending a third night camping in subzero temperatures would have been very silly, hence my early return to Cambridge last night (sorry to anyone to whom I didn't manage to say goodbye). |

| Sorcerer venue |
[Jun. 8th, 2007|09:48 am] |
People who asked where to come and see the Gilbert & Sullivan society's performance of The Sorcerer (on Wednesday 20th June): It's in the Octagon Room Sidney Sussex Chapel and will start at 1.30pm. After the show we head over to the Newnham gardens for the partay, which I think starts about 3pm.
Also, Maelstrom starts this evening and new group and not ready and not enough time and not packed and aaaaaargh... it'll be a lot of fun though. Interesting developments include the well-known singing wemic Gin Tang having apparently gone missing. I hope she reappears; otherwise a lot of people will miss her and joining her songs around the camp fires. |

- Greenfield Shores politics appears to have become even more, um, innnnnnteresting. I hope House Lyrus remains at a safe distance from it.
- Ocelot \O"ce*lot\, n.
- Metasyntactic marsupial.1
- I have the dubious honour of allegedly having the best wrist action in GothSoc.

| Iolanthe |
[Oct. 24th, 2006|12:33 am] |
I'll be performing in the chorus of peers for G&S soc's production of Iolanthe, or The Peer And The Peri, by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. The show provisionally runs from Wednesday 29th November to Saturday 2nd December; the society website ought to have more information nearer the time.
In other news, work… continues apace, is the appropriate phrase, I think. This wouldn't be a problem, except that I almost never get to sleep at a sensible time. I'm still very much enjoying it though; indeed, I can think of no way in which I'd rather earn a living. On the first aid front, I am now theoretically qualified to be unsupervised on duty, albeit somewhat in need of revision, so I don't intend to exercise that capability any time soon. In Maelstrom, if this downtime goes according to plan, my character should be wearing and selling armour of his own manufacture at the next event. He wouldn't be much of an armourer if he didn't. Last but not least, I shall be gothy tomorrow later today, as I haven't been to the full evening's events for far too long.
The flat is finally approaching an acceptable state, except for the contents of the kitchen. I don't even have tea at the moment, which clearly Won't Do. Proper hospitality, and all that. I'm terrified of getting it to a state which I can actually declare finished, because I'm sure it would then instantly disappear and be replaced by something more bizarrely inexplicable (such as Clive's current house trouble). |
