I get on really well with some of the inner-ear earphones - that actually sit in your ear canal with a rubber nubbin (rather than the foam things that sit in your earlobe that used to be available). Because they're in your inner ear, they're able to reproduce decent levels of bass, and they work very well at blocking out the outside world without costing a bomb.
I've just got a pair of sony MDR-EX52LP 's, which seem to be working OK so far!
Or is your heart set on big over-the-top ones? :-)
